I Bought a Drone…
So, I Bought a Drone.
I’ve been toying with the idea for a few years now. I was pretty adamant at first that I’d never own a drone. I sort of felt like it wouldn’t have the same tactile feel as a camera.
I’ve found myself stuck a few times during the day wanting to shoot but having the sun way too high or the skies just an endless, plain blue, yes, I know, first-world photography problems.
I’ve also been fighting with an urge to get higher up to capture certain shots, since climbing to new heights isn’t exactly an option in most places, I finally thought, “Screw it. I’m getting a drone.”
So here I am, giving it a go.
So far? Well, let’s just say I’ve been a bit chicken about it. I find a “safe spot” to launch, zip it up in the air, wiggle it around a few times to see what I’m doing, and then… I freak out because I remember that’s camera equipment just hanging out in the sky. So I bring it back down, sigh in relief, and tell myself that maybe next time I’ll get more adventurous.
I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve for what I want to shoot with it.
Filming whales isn’t at the top of my list—actually, it’s not even on the list . But I do want to shoot some waves, I have some scenes planned and some that I know others have shot before, but I’m itching to check them off my list.
This weekend my mate and I headed out to the salt lakes of the Wheatbelt and shot some amazing scenes!
I felt more confident shooting out in the country as it was a bit more quiet, no people or objects around, I even went over water!
Purchasing a drone doesn’t mean I’m retiring my beloved Nikon Z6, I absolutely love camera photography, the drone is just another tool in my kit for those days when the scene from the ground just isn’t cutting it.
So stay tuned. Let’s see where this goes.
